Recipes
Hello parents and friends!
Since I covered in “Resources” how sugar can really affect ADHD kids (and some normal kids and adults too!), I thought some sugar free recipes would be helpful to share!
My son would feel left out if he couldn’t have what his sister was having and adding one more difference in his life seemed very unfair.
Hope you enjoy these recipes!
Greek yogurt & Oreo Paletas (popsicles)
A healthy treat! Protein is so important to all kids, but especially ADHD kiddos. These “Paletas” are high in protein, low in sugar, and a delicious treat for all!
Greek Yogurt & Oreo Paletas:
1.5 cups plain greek yogurt (sugar free) OR a sugar free flavored greek yogurt (I like one in the link below)
1-2 TBS sugar free alternative (see some options below). If you use sugar free flavored greek yogurt, skip this.
1 tsp vanilla extract
Oreos – sugar free! I use about 1 cookie per bar.
Mix yogurt, sugar free sweetener, and vanilla together in a bowl. Oreos can be crumbled and added to the mixture or you can put a whole oreo in the paleta mold. Scoop mixture into silicone paleta molds and put in freezer for at least 4 hours.
Other options – berries are also fantastic to add! Have your kiddos pick out something fun to add – just watch the sugar content that goes into these. Each child can make their own creation! You can also use sugar free flavored greek yogurt (like the Chobani cups) to make fun fruity creations!
This is a good zero sugar greek yogurt option if you don’t want to add additional sweetener: Chobani Yogurt
I like this silicone mold- easy clean up and they lay flat, which is easier for the oreos or additions! Silicone Mold – lay flat
This is another option that stands up – also a great optoin! Silicone Mold
We use “Swerve” alternative sweetener in a lot of our cooking (especially when I’m on Keto) –Swerve sugar
Or try this sugar-free maple syrup option!
Maple syrup – sugare free
Oreos – sugar free! We use these in the paletas and also crushed up on sugar free ice cream (my kids love cookies and cream ice cream). Oreos – sugar free
Protein Pancakes
A high protein mix with a twist!
We LOVE the Kodiak pancake mix (great price at Sam’s Club too) – it’s high protein to begin with (protein really helps with the sugar cravings and is important in general). We use their suggested modification by adding whole milk AND eggs to the batter to increase the protein.
*** Instead of smothering with syrup, try berries or sliced bananas and whipped cream!
This is a much better alternative and a fraction of the sugar, plus the berries have antioxidants! Yum
*** We are a chocolate obsessed family and we love putting chocolate chips in our pancakes – however… again sugar.
Lily’s has a brand of sugar free chocolate chips that taste great and again, you’re helping limit the intake of sugar!
